Upgrade USB1 to USB 2 how (and my case is it worth it?)

I have purchased a new printer which is connected to my desktop PC via USB a/b cable.

When in use I receive a message stating that the printer will work faster if I install USB 2.

As the title suggests, is it worth my while to upgrade, what are the benefit(s), is it worth the cost and can I perform the task myself?

I have sought answers to this query via forum search to no avail.

Thanks, in advance, for any replies.

little benefit for a printer as the amount of data passing through it will be minimal

You would need to buy an add in motherboard card .If your machine has slots free .

How old is the computer? Anything 5-6 years old or newer will have USB2.0 already.

True - and some will only work at USB 1 speeds if the hardware drivers have not been installed properly. If you look in Device Manager and find that one or more devices are showing an exclamation mark, it's possible that the Enhanced USB device does not have the correct driver installed.

If you use any external USB-based memory such as pendrives, getting USB2.0 running will be well worth doing, as the transfer speeds are ~much~ higher.

    Thanks for replies to date.

My beast is about 10 - 12 years old and was supplied by Tiny Computers which if I recall correctly ceased trading some time ago.
