Pension Credit

Hubby got the sack today! hes worked at same place for 16 years but since he had to have quite a bit of time off with his diabetes they have made life difficult for him, his boss is a real nasty piece of work, anyway he got a final written warning 5 months ago partky for the time off and partly cos they said he had spent too long at a driving job even though his taco said different, they have moved premises and there is no job driving now so he has to do heavy manual work hes 62 with scolliosis and its too heavy work so they have been lookin for a way to get rid, anyway his wage didnt go in on Wednesday so yesterday he rang a few from work to see if their had and it had so he rang boss to ask where his was, bosses wife answered and got all gobby with him saying its our banks fault and baically shouting at him, this morning boss phones to say he was lying about his wage as it was in our bank Wednesday, ikt went in today 31st and hubby told boss but he called him a liar again and then sacked him as he said ringing work colleagues was underhand, he has to go for his letter and collect his stuff Monday at 9am

Have jut looked into pension credit and it says £35 a week, I thought it would have been more as we have a disabled daughter, also would our tax credits go up if he only got £35 pension credit
New to all this as he has never been out of a job before

I think you need advice from the employment board as to how legal the sacking is to be honest in the first place.

Then give the job centre a call on Tuesday (Monday is a bank holiday) and find out what he is entitled to claim.

Tax credits pays money for children; not pension credit.

Yes I understand that but I thought its a dependant, there was no room on the pension credit forecast for housing costs either
  • If your husband has stopped working he would need to inform Tax Credits so they can adjust any working tax element. With Pension Credit for a couple the minimum amount would be £202.40 and you would get the Carers Premium on top of this - effectively about £232.45 a week.

We didnt get working tax as my carers is classed as an income

  • So what income do you and your husband get coming into the household that you will only get £35 a week Pension Credit - or do you have a lot of savings?
