Technika TV/DVD Combo "No Valid Disc" Problem

My mum has a Technika TV/DVD Combo which has been working fine until recently but now when she puts a disc into the DVD it comes up as "No Valid Disc"
The discs she has been using are European so its not a region issue. I was wondering if anyone else had any idea what could be causing this problem.

Yes, its a technika and its a combo system
Put the two together and you have a failure in waiting (well, not anymore)

Lense inside the DVD needs cleaning. 30 second job with a cotton bud if you can get to it. DVD/CD Cleaning discs are a waste of time when its got to this point as it needs to be able to read them to run the cleaning routine. How confident are you at taking it to bits?

As I found out to my gross irritation when mine stopped working, Tesco sell these TVs which are barely fit for purpose. Tesco's after sales service is not good.
Back on topic , could it be that a disc has been inserted the wrong way round and has been left in the unit ( this happened to me ).
    Forgotten but not gone.
