Washable sofa covers, what now?

My covers and cushions on both my sofas need cleaning, they are removable, so do i take them to a Laundrette and wash them at a low temp? or do i take them to a Dry Cleaners?

Any advice greatfull received.

Did ours in the washing machine at low temp setting, did get some shrinkage but could be stretched over the settee frame again no trouble. It depends entirely on the material. Ours is some sort of heavy polyester cotton.
  • How did you dry them, was it on the line?

I suppose it depends what they are made of. Take one off and see if theres a care label.

My sofa is cream so I wash the covers quite a lot. have to do it in 2 goes though. I was the actual cover on one wash then the cushion covers on another. Cant tumble dry them so I try to choose a day when I can hang them out for a bit them I have to finish them on the radiators.

Mine are best put on when still v slighlt damp so they can stretch back if need be. Its ok doing this in my house as i put them back on in the morning and we are out all day but it may be more difficult if you have little ones at home as I would think being damp they would mark more easily if children spill stuff on maybe?

HI Mine are cotton and say dry clean only (argos) I put them in the washing machine on a cold wash and dried them on the line, they came up great!

  • On the weekend we just did the cushion covers, washed in the method above.....wow, we were nearly blinded by how well they came up, it's only now we can see how mingy they were!

We can now do the rest with confidence.

    Thanks all.

I did mine in the machine on a 30 wash & they were fine. They're so big I have to do them in 3 washes. They come up great, unlike when I had them drycleaned when they didn't look any differant & it cost a fortune.
Said dry clean only on the label.
