...you posted the same nonsense here

    Sure did, god your sharp!!
  • Because 1 firm has increased its rates why are you going on a pointless crusade. Writing to Watchdog is surely going to do much good and setting up a website against MBNA will land you in court for slander. They can easily afford it and they will. Your ego has been dented and you are not happy.

You shop at Sainsburys, their prices go up 20% overnight.... do you set up a hate campaign against them or do you switch your shopping to Tescos?? :D

when I wrote and asked why this interest rate had gone up 16% they could not give me a reason, but just said it is a variable rate card its gone up.

I don't profess to be the smartest cookie, or the one who knows a lot about credit cards & how they work.

I often ask questions on the topic.

However, the above puzzles me greatly....

I read that & to me, basically what you're saying is..........

You: Hey MBNA, why did you VARY the % on my VARIABLE card?

MBNA: because it's VARIABLE, and we have VARIED it

You: I don't understand. This can't be right surely?! I don't agree with this.

It doesn't make sense to me.

It's like someone offers you £100, but tells you if you take it then they'll slap you, so you take it and they slap you ... you then turn round & ask why they just slapped you.

No actually watchdog are interested in this as they have had a lot of complaints about MBNA, regarding interest hikes and payment protection products.

I can put anything on a web site, which is my opinion as long as do not slander them, by saying they hike up interests rates and cant give a clear explanation is not slander.

My ego has not been dented, just want an explanation on why the hike in interest when there is no reason. I understand the point about go else where, but I wont use the card again and will cancel it when they give a clear explanation.

Why on earth do you think MBNA should have to justify their commercial decisions to you?

You gave them permission to increase your interest rate... why is that so hard to understand?

You gave them permission so you have nothing to whine about.

Because I'm a customer and I want an explanation on how they justify this, I'm sure if I max out my credit card tomorrow and don't pay them, they will want an explanation on why I have not payed and will have mass amounts of phone calls to try and get payment.

But thats the point I never did, it was a fixed rate card and then I came back from Iraq and noticed they had doubled the interest rate. When I called they said I had been sent a letter saying advising me of the proposed standard interest rate increase and an option to opt out of the increase.

But i never received such a letter and when I asked MBNA for a copy of this letter, they can't find it on my file. So that is why I'm not happy, it was fixed rate.

You did! You gave them permission the moment you signed the credit agreement and began using the card.

Once you signed that credit agreement, they were free to charge whatever interest rate they like and there is absolutely nothing at all you can do about it (except closing the account).

There is a clause which states the interest rate is variable (meaning it can go up or down as they choose) and they can and will vary your rates as they see fit - meaning you effectively gave them permission. I suggest you go read your legally binding agreement.

There really is no point dragging this out because you won't win. You can hire all of the solicitors you want, write complaints until your blue in the face but you signed the agreement and nothing will change that. It's best you just move on.
