And don't forget, you don't have to replace the existing disk with another WD drive, although they are a top manufacturer.
Almost any,if not all, manufacturers drives will be suitable.
As long as it is SATA and 2.5"
There will probably be a housing which you need to remove from the existing HDD and fit to the replacement.
But as said before it's a pretty easy job to do.0 -

If you can get the system up on the existing disk, you may be able to find software to replicate it onto the new one. (Temporarily putting the new one in an external USB drive.)0

After running chkdsk the laptop seems to have booted up normally, so I am now copying itunes and photos again to be sure I don't lose them. When chkdisc finished, it switched to bootup before I could read what it said at the end, so I will try to further investigate the hard drive situation tomorrow. At some point soon I'm going to need to go and get glammed up for tonight, so thanks again for the advice given here :A, I hope you all have a great time tonight and Happy New Year xxx :beer:
ps When I get the new hard drive, does anyone know what happens to programmes like MS Office, which we have a 3-user license for, but is already installed on 2 other laptops? Will I be able to re-install it without paying again? Also, will the free version of Spotify (which you can't get anymore) be on the backup? I also use Calibre for e-reading - will it still have my books on it if I do a 'restore from backup' on Vista? Anyway, these are all minor details compared to photos and music, so I need to stop ramblingThanks again xx
