Sky+ connection

I was talking to a guy at Currys, and he told me that I can connect an HD TV to a sky+ box using an hdmi cable. I was rather sceptical about this, but of course, I wasn't absolute sure. So when I came home I checked the sky box, and I don't see any terminal for an hdmi cable. Was he right or am I missing something here as I am not too technical. I'd appreciate an expert advise.

He was talking rubbish. There is no HDMI port on a Sky + Box.

However, and this is what he may have been referring to, Sky no longer supply Sky+ boxes, they only supply Sky + HD boxes whether you subscribe to their HD service or not.

    These do have HDMI interfaces.

Thank you Penrhyn for your reply. But I think he was trying to mislead me as I was looking for a TV with 2 scart inputs and he was trying to tell me that I can get by with 1 as the sky box can be linked using the hdmi cable. I made it very clear to him that I had the sky+ not the HD box.

However, your reply is very interesting - how can I get a sky+ HD box without subscribing to the HD service. Is this only available to new customers?

    .

Agreed, I would not even bother asking a member of staff at Currys the time of day, they would get that wrong.

Or they would tell you that you needed to speak to a manager...

  • Well, that put me off buying anything from Currys, not that I was ever keen with their service. You know how it is, I went in the store to get some ideas and he came over asking if I need any help. Like you say, I don't think any of the sales team have any technical knowledge. Appalling service.

Indeed avoid PC Dixon's Curry World.

You may be able to pick up a Sky+HD box on Ebay.

I decided to upgrade to Sky+HD, got one free from Sky with self install, I did have to commit to 12 months worth of the HD pack@£10/ month though.

When a salesman in a high street electrical shop asks if they can help, I find it quite hard to hold back the giggles when they rattle off the specs... only for me to correct them!

Both The Link and Curry's have lied to me about the terms of their extended warranties too. I try to avoid doing business with such companies if I can... I'd think the staff were just ignorant if it wasn't patently obvious that they simply don't care about the truth.

I once went with my neighbour to Lazer electrical store as he wanted a new TV,Salesman tried to talk my mate into a much more expensive Digital TV,which my mate didn't need as he has Sky.
Salesman tried to act smug & argue with me,insisting he was right & I was wrong,to which I said "Well I'm a Cable TV Service Engineer which I've been doing since 98 so I guess I know more about Digital platforms than you" to which he shut up & walked away.

Incidentally, the same mate went to buy a desktop pc from the same store,it crashed while setting it up & the was no discs with it.Lazer insisted the are no disc's provided with PC's & gave my mate a replacement pc,which turned out to be an ex-display PC & when setting this one up,we found !!!!!! on it.

Did they not charge you extra for that?
Probably one that Gary Glitter had traded in for a newer model...
