My Humax is wired by ethernet to my router. I have done the set-up and my PVR shows there is an internet connection. Internet sharing on my PC shows X Box, laptop and another internet enabled TV but no Humax cry.gif

I have read the Humax manual and there is no guidance therein, re internet connection.

I hope someone can give me some advice?

Your internet connection gets you connected to iPlayer only at the moment - are you trying to stream stuff over your own network or something? Try going to a BBC channel, pressing the red button, and follow the iPlayer links to see if you can watch anything, if you can, you're set!

  • Hi,

there is a new forum about humax on http://hummy.tv ,hummy.org seem to have bitten the dust:cry:, however there is AFAIK as yet no way for using the Foxsat HDR with a PC eg streaming if that's what you want to do.

There are ways to get content from the PC to the hummy using either a USB Stick, or USB HDD (obviously if you want large files then HDD is better ,but more important is the disk/stick really need to be formatted in EXT3 format the hummy accepts FAT32/Ext3 only and Fat only allows 4Gb thus Ext3 is better. It will accept Mp3s/Jpgs natively but video needs it's own format (.ts transport stream container and two other files two. there is a utility AV2HDR to produce those from either DVD mpg or vob, winff will convert others to mpg ....

I have only had mine 3 weeks but have had some success with transfer (both ways, eg using VLC to watch recordings from the Hummy on my PC).

    HTH (rambling again :D)

So you can see iPlayer on your PC. Can you see iPlayer on the Humax box? If so, that's the internet connection working. The Humax box doesn't have Windows file sharing or any PC streaming capabilities, so you will never get the Humax 'linked' to the PC. To move files around between the 2, use the excellent instructions in post 5.

A Later Update for Humax , it is possible to set the foxsat hdr to run a FTP server .... so you can copy files from the Hummy to your PC (and vice versa) getting stuff to a USB attached to the hummy is a bit more convoluted but I am working on that. It is excellent for archiving and watching recorded stuff from my Hummy on my laptop :D

FTP server?! Do tell us how to do this, is this in the latest official firmware?! This would be really handy for archiving...

OK lookie , I have noticed that if you for example you attach a Disk using USB and it is formatted using Ext3 (so you can get over the 4Gb limit of fat) then any files you put on that with a view to viewing/playing on the Hummy they are able to play no problem but for the FTP server to read them they need to be owner=root or Possibly owner=id of users in the etc/passwd file on the hummy, I cannot see files I put on the disk with my ownerid=1000. Copying files to the external over ftp of course all get stored with owner root so you can see them.
HTH, I use Portable apps version of Filezilla for FTp and Portable Apps putty for Telnet access. But any other will work too eg MS versions are fine too except it is tiresome using longhand FTP commands and the MS ones don't use unix variants of FTP protocol ;)

Addendum... the version of busybox on there is quite limited but it does include wget
