Problem with Abbey Current Account

In September, £645 was withdrawn from my current account (without my authority) and my account was frozen. No-one at Abbey thought to tell me and I was left stranded unable to withdraw any money. Apparently, the money was taken by an Belfast Saving bank (via telephone banking). I had not set up telephone banking on my account - so it must have been an admin error somewhere in the system. Someone with an account number similar to mine had given my account number rather than theirs.

Surely this must be simple to sort out but I have had no response from the Abbey. It is now nearly 2 months since the money disappear and no-one is willing to help. I think I will never see my money again. I have written to complain but my letter is being ignored.

I am interested to know if anyone else has experienced similar problems with the Abbey or any other bank and if so, did there get a satisfactory outcome ?
