When Sainsburys was Safeway they didnt have this and we had a problem with trolleys lying on roads, ponds etc. Now sainsburys store we have had no problem I live 2 minutes from Sainsburys.
The thing is it's still a deterrent because you'll want to keep the keyring as if you don't you're back to using pound coins. Having to ask someone face to face for one of the keyrings is enough to prevent all but the most determined trolly abandoner.0 -
I have a trolley token from a charity its very handy to keep in car.
I no Op has best intentions its just I hope they dont do this as it would cause problems of dumped trolleys.jayne26 wrote:i bought one for a pound at clatterbridge hospital on the wirral , money went to there hospice i think . v handy to have on your car keys0 -

My local Sainsburys does not have locked tolleries.0

Sainsburys now give their trolleys for free but if you go out of boundaries it will lock the wheel - next time you go have a look, you will see the magnetic posts - thats how they automatically lock.Mummy of 3 lovely munchkins :smileyhea0

If thats the case thats fine, however I no at mine they dont although they do have a grid thing on the floor which was put down when it was Safeways and the tolleys could easily get round it. Maybe its not all stores certainly our local store doesnt have this.0

I have had a token for years and so far have resisted the urge to go trolley joy riding!
I don't think they would give the tokens out to kids, just adults whos lives will be made that little easier.

Our local ASDA trollies don't need a £1 coin. They appear to have electronics in them that stops them working when you go over loops in the exit points. I havn't tried it out.
I also noticed all the shopping baskets have security tags in them, presumably to set off the alarms at the door.0 -

Forget losing a pound - my dad used to lend me his chain cutters! Ah the memories, pushing a train of around 50 trolleys into the canal!

My kids bought me a charity coin on a keyring last christmas as a stocking filler as I am always going to the supermarket and don't have any pound coins. I am now safe in the knowledge that whenever I go to the supermarket, I can at least get hold of a trolley without all the hassle of having to go and get some money out of the cash machine and then exchanging it for coins.0
