What lubricant for furniture wheels

Just a quicky - does anyone have a definative answer as to the best lubricant for furniture wheels.

Currently considering wd40 or furniture polish. Though if people feel lithium grease, copper grease or even rubber grease I do have these.

Obviously the issue is I don't want it getting on the carpet (either during application or in the day to day movement of the furniture).

Any advice (other than don't move the furniture) will be thankfully received.

how often are you moving the furniture, and dont forget any of the light oils (wd40 etc) will run off and land on the carpet.

personally i'd use a SMEAR of vaseline.

Depends on the wheel. I suggest 3 in 1 Oil for most, WD 40 is not suitable for these items as it does run off.

At the moment the furniture is moved daily - though hopefully after the new year (when life settles back to normality) it may reduced to once or twice a week.

At work and home I use silicon based lubricants current one being called silslip. This is handy for dusty environments e.t.c because after spraying and giving a wipe all excess evaporates and nothing sticks to it. which can happen when using the likes of wd40 e.t.c as it remains tacky. This is also used in food environments because it doesn't come of the place you have applied it to.

In the end I went for this option - probably the most expensive - but it definately did the job. Thanks to everyone who responded.

On a related note I moved into a new build a few years ago and cowboy builders had clearly used some kind of black light oil to lubricate every door and wardrobe hinge in the place so now after a few years every door frame is stained around the hinges and carpets have a nasty black patch around the corner of each frame.

What would be a good way of getting these nasty oils off all the moving parts before putting something suitable from this thread on in its place?

I'm assuming taking doors off, removing hinges and a bit of soaking/scrubbing will be in order.... just not sure what would be best to use?

definitely want all this nasty stuff gone before I think about repainting and new carpets in the near future!
