Should we claim on our house insurance again?

I would be grateful for any advice. This year we have already had one claim in July for water damage caused while we were on holiday (leaking boiler) - claim was for about £6000. All resolved and no problems. Unfortunately we had a burst pipe last week in a completely different area of the house and we now have gaping holes in the plaster in the utility room with potential damage to laminate flooring (no signs of water damage as yet). Our excess will be £100 for contents if laminate is damaged and £100 for buildings to repair damage, plus we have a voluntary excess of £100 - so potentially £300 in all. My concern is that if we have another biggish claim in one year will this really affect the premiums next year, or even make us uninsurable - and should we just pay to get the damage repaired and not claim? Or will the premiums go up a lot anyway and it doesn't make any difference whether it's 1 claim or 2? Hope this makes sense and thank you for any replies.

2 claims for water damage within 12 months will likely affect the premium more than 1.

Why not run through a few "fake" online quotes to see what effect the 2nd claim will make to your premium. You don't need to use you real contact info, just the correct property details and postcode.

By the way, the laminate flooring may come under the buildings section as this is usually considered a fixture but check your policy book.

Hope this helps and sorry you've had such bad luck this year.
