This may sound like a really stupid question. I have recently moved into my new home. When i was doing it up i ripped the phone line out the house up to a box which sits on the wall just outside my front door. Is it easy just to connect some new wire to it and put a new box inside my house?
Next... How do i go about getting the internet for very cheap, i dont want a phone, is it possible to just pay a line rental and then pay for the internet? If so what kind of costs are involved etc? What do you need to pay for etc, can you recommend a good deal? Im on a friends computer by the way lol.
Thanks very much for your help!

Would that be a phone service provided by a cable TV provider. The 'box' should also have a cable coming into your house to hook up a TV. Anyhow, you'd need to re-run the phone wires and into a 'master' socket in the house, did you keep what was there before?

AFAIK no-one in the UK is unbundling internet from phone line rental. If you were a very light user, could you get by with using the 3G internet access via a mobile phone?0 -

Not too sure what the box is its a small grey one. Ive been looking at bt and plus net then, it sais line instalation, does that mean they will actually fit me a line into the house do you know? Im not a light user i just haven't got round to doing the internet in the house yet plus my son wants his xbox online so also should i get a wired or wireless router, thanks

try looking up Plusnet and see if you live in a low cost area, this might be the lowest cost possible0

As far as I know, the only people who will do internet without a phone line is Virgin media and that costs about £20 per month after the initial reduced rate for the 10 Mbit package.
It would be wise to check how far you are from your local telephone exchange as that will affect your speed if you use any digital subscriber line (ADSL etc). If your far away, then cable could be the best option if it is available.

Primus Saver is the cheapest phone line provider and that is meant to increase after today.

If you happen to live in a Virgin cabled area, you may be able to haggle 10MB uncapped broadband + a phone line for £20 ish. Good value if you live in the right area as the cabled BB will be better than ADSL. But phone calls will be really expensive.0

If it looks like this
then you can wire from that to internal extensions as described near the bottom of this page.
If you are in a plusnet low cost area that's probably the cheapest broadband, but you still have to pay BT line rental on top.
Otherwise some of the Sky packages are quite cheap if you want Sky TV as well.A kind word lasts a minute, a skelped erse is sair for a day.0
