Mobile Phone Xchange - RANT!!!

Hi,
Am really, really annoyed!
Was trying to get the best price for old LG Cookie, looked at a comparison site & above Co. offered the best deal - £24 in argos vouchers. I duly sent off the phone carefully bubble wrapped, and today have received an e-mail from them saying that they have reduced the quote down to £4 !!!
This is apparently due to heavy scratching on the screen & no battery?
The phone had been barely used, there was certainly no scratching anywhere on the phone & the battery had been fully charged prior to being sent off & worked perfectly.
I have sent old phones off before - to a different co. & have never had this response before.
I have been on hold forever trying to get through & have given up & sent an email requesting the phone back as I don't agree with their quote.
Has anyone else had a problem like this, did you get the phone back?
I also (stupidly) never made a note of the IMEI number prior to sending it away - just hope I get the same phone back!

Sounds exactly what these cash for gold companies do.. give you a nice price then reduce it when they get it..
Ebay would probably be your best bet"If you no longer go for a gap, you are no longer a racing driver" - Ayrton Senna0 -
I did look on EBAY, but, because the phone is locked to Virgin, the offer to 're-cycle' seemed better. I certainly won't bother again!"Hope for the Best

Ask them to send it back to you."If you think it's expensive to hire a professional to do the job, wait until you hire an amateur." -- Red Adair0

Ask them to send it back to you.
The email specified that unless they heard back from me within 3 days, they would automatically credit me with the £4
I assume that that due to Sat/Sun/Mon being holidays, they have closed down for the New Year? - Will wait & see"Hope for the Best

Your mobile phone company should be able to provide you with the IMEI number; all calls made from mobiles are "tagged" with the IMEI from the handset used. If you can give them the dates/times of some calls that you made from that handset they should be able to help you out.0

Have received a response - now upping the quote to £15 due to minor scratching, no mention of the supposedly missing/damaged battery.
Their e-mail went on to say that if I wanted the phone to be returned, I would have to pay them £10 admin fee!
I really feel that this particular company are purely scamming people into believing they will receive more than they actually will, and the fact that their admin fee is hidden away in the small print & is not mentioned on their Q&A adds more insult!
Rant over...........Thanks for listening"Hope for the Best

tell them to poke it! take your phone back, get the IMEI number from your provider and check upon arrival of it back0

I know this is an old thread but wanted to put my 2p's worth in!!
I recently sent them a Samsung Wave that was only 7 months old. I was quoted £101 cash when I sent it off, but received an email saying that the phone was faulty as it had heavy scratching on the screen and they would be sending me £42!!
I was disgusted and knew I'd get more selling it myself so I called them and told them there was no way I was accepting that the screen was heavily scratched. The CA (a little too quickly) agreed that the term 'heavy' wasn't called for and said she could return the phone to me or they could offer me £90 for the phone and they would have it in my bank by 5pm!
It makes me wonder how many people have just accepted their valuation and possibly lost out on a lot of money! Been smoke free for 4 years!! :beer:0
