Ultimate Insurance Company

Has anyone knowledge or experience of Ultimate Insurance Company, who are based in Gibraltar, but operate here and are regulated by the FSA? They underwrite pet insurance policies offered by Admiral, but possibly are involved in other areas of insurance. Any advice would be gratefully received before I proceed with a favourable quotation.

Unless you are selecting their "Gold" Cover then it is not cover for life which can be a false economy if your pet has a condition that needs treatment for more than a year

Many thanks dacouch for your response. It would be the Gold cover I would go for, but companies such as EandL who also offer 'lifetime' cover, are (rightly or wrongly) criticised for their customer services, etc. Have you used this company? Previously I would have automatically chosen this cover, but am now wary of companies I have never heard of. Possibly a case of 'too much information', etc.

E & L are an Insurer you should definately avoid.

Insurers base themselves in Gibralter for three reasons 1) They are regulated less strictly than in the UK 2) They need less capital (They don't need to set aside as much money solely for claims 3) It is far quicker to set up an Insurer in Gibralter than in the UK.

Am Insurer based in Gibralter gains authorisation in the UK and you will be protected by the Ombudsman, as a general rule I personally avoid (Where possible) Insurers based in Gibralter as they are normally at the cheap and not cheerful end of the market eg 1st Central and Zenith etc. However in this case they are basically carrying the risk for an Admiral policy so it would not bother me that much as you have the Admiral brand.

The policy wording is not bad, if you can afford it, Pet Plan are the best Pet Insurer
