Hmmm, could it be my power supply? Can they make a high pitch noise? Read a few threads where people have mentioned this.
The noise I get is high pitch and constant (in terms of sound, it doesn't go up and down). It's a bit like white (or pink?) noise, like in a war film when an explosion goes off nearby and you get that high pitch noise
I'll need to check the rails on my PSU. From what I can remember they're fine. It's a Tagan 530W PSU. I'll maybe try unplugging the extra drives and other devices to reduce load, then see if it occurs.
Would make sense, as it often happens when gaming (3D, or intensive apps), during which more power will be getting drawn.
Think I'd rather it be the PSU than the motherboard."Boonowa tweepi, ha, ha."0 -
At least trying that will eliminate the PSU as a possible cause.
I see several people on both threads have mentioned the capacitors, and that is a possibility. Any electrical engineer would be able to replace them quite cheaply, so it may be worth looking at that as an option if the PSU proves to be alright.0 -
wolfman, I have a similar problem. A high pitched continuous noise sometimes louder sometimes quieter, always the same note. Doesnt bother me too much as it's so high but my wife and daughter says its really annoying.
It started a couple of weeks ago after a friend upgraded my motherboard, processor, memory and video card and installed a wireless network card (not running yet). Maybe this rules out the PSU as this and the hard drive werent upgraded.
Here's what was installed: Biostar NF4-A9A motherboard, 1.8GHz AMD Athlon 64, connect 3D graphics card, Ralink Turbo wireless LAN card, 512 MB memory in one slot.
When I get a chance I'm bringing it back to him to look at. HTH0 -
Argh. Turns out it's my PSU.
The high pitch beep is definitely coming from it. And it occurs when the computer is under heavy load.
Annoying thing is that it's a Tagan 530W psu, which should be fine. The 3.3v rail is at 3.26 under load and the 5v rail at 4.98. I can't read the 12v rail in Speedfan though, which must be the one failing.
It's got two rails though, both 20A or 22A which I thought would have been enough. I'll need to run some more checks.
It runs ok if I've got my machine at stock FSB. I'll just have to leave overclocking it for now. I've also disconnected a few things to reduce load, just to make sure everything is ok.
Anyone know of something like Speedfan that can monitor PSU rails?"Boonowa tweepi, ha, ha."0 -

Have you tried PC Wizard 2006?
Can also be run from a flash-drive i.e. not necessary to install.
