Xbox 360 keeps freezing

Hi, bought the new Xbox 360 250gb in mid Nov for my sons xmas. So only opened and played since xmas day . When he is playing games either disc or downloaded games ,after a little while the console freezes, and he is needing to turn it off and back on.

As i know very little about games consoles, would this be normal,and maybe just needing to cool down?

If it is faulty ,would i need to go straight to microsoft or would i go back to Argos,receipt is dated 16th nov , any help appreciated,thanks.

It's not normal, the console should be able to run for ages without any bother. Ensure that it is well ventilated and has plenty of space around about it for good airflow. Try clearing the cache - instructions here.

If that doesn't help then try Argos first, if no joy there then contact Microsoft's Xbox support team.

Just to add, it vents the heat from the top or the right hand side if stood up, not from the back like the old ones. You need at least a good 4-6" clear. There was a Youtube video of one that got a graphics glitch then locked up. It was obvious to everyone apart from the maker what the problem was (books directly to the side of it). He moved said obstruction and it worked fine.

If you do continue having problems, take it straight back to Argos. Forget MS, its Argos you bought it from. Under SOGA it is automatically deemed to be faulty at manufacture for the first 6 months with right to a replacement.
