Number 18 cake tins for 18th birthday cake

Have looked online, and most the cake tins are about £16 each!!
I want a number 1 and a number 8 to make an 18th birthday cake, anyone know where i can get some without it costing the earth?
Thank you

Try hobby craft, they had lots of differn't caske tins and I dont think they were that expensive. Or why not try a local market I think our market has a crfat/cake decorating stall

The other option instead of buying specialist tins is to make a square cake and cut in half and lay end to end for the 1. Then make two smaller round cakes, cut a circle in the middle of them both and put them together to make the 8. Once they are covered in icing no one would ever know that they weren't cooked like that. You have to work out the sizes a bit but it looks ok.

This is what my mum used to do for us.

My sister is studying cake decorating at college she has a load of different tins but for the ones she doesnt have she hires them rather than buying them. the hire isnt much a couple of £'s per week and she doesn have to store them as they do take up quite alot of space.

Find your local cake decorating supplier and contact them to see if they hire out cake pans/tins.
  • our local 'cake decorating' shop hire the tins out

Thanks all, I shall ring around and try to hire some- failing that I'll try the suggestion of cutting them myself... with a steady hand of course!
