Royal Mail Special Delivery

I took a parcel to the Post Office yesterday to send it Special Delivery before 1pm. The lady said that the next day service had been reinstated, so my parcel would arrive today.
At 2pm, when it still hadn't been delivered, and with no info showing on the website, I rang Customer Services. The guy said I must have missed yesterday's post, as the time on my receipt said 16:41. Having had the day confirmed at time of posting, and the fact my receipt also says "posted after last collection - No", he then said I could make a claim once the parcel has been delivered.
I've just checked the website again, and it says your parcel will be delivered before the guaranteed time of 1pm on 31st December??!! Does anyone know if it is worth me making a claim for late delivery, as my son took time off work to wait for it this morning and will have to do the same tomorrow? I have no actual proof that was what I was told.
Thanks in advance for any help!

Isn't it funny how whenever a delivery is delayed or a tradesman fails to visit, the customer has always "taken time off work"
Why do people always claim this to increase the so-called inconvenience to them. People don't take time off work just to wait for a parcel, really!0 -

I don't think that it will make any difference if you claim to have been waiting all day for a delivery.RM have a standard compensation procedure. I recently sent 2 letters recorded/signed for, I know they were delivered because I got a reply, but no signature was obtained.Their tracking system said the item was still being processed. I was told by Royal Mail that I would have to wait for 15 days after the expected delivery date before I could fill in a complaint form.( I had paid extra for a service which I didn't receive and wanted the additional cost refunded). The result, a month later, was a letter containing six 2nd class stamps. stating that they could only give the value of the postage or 6 stamps ,whichever was the greater.I was satified with that, but in your case I expect the compensation will be a little more ,but don't expect a lot.0

So how exactly do you think people who work Mon-Fri daytimes get parcels?
Not everyone can get parcels delivered to work or travel to the depot to collect it.0 -
I sent a Special Delivery parcel back to Javari (Amazon) late afternoon on 31st and it was delivered on the lst and money credit to my account by late afternoon - W0W ! I would be very miffed it had not arrived the following day - but did not expect such excellent service from Javari.
This was a first..................I get confused over the types of delivery services......I could have had lst class recorded but was told that big companies deliveries are often not scanned individually so not a good way to prove posting/delivlery! it was suggestged I used Special Delivery which was scanned upon delivery - well worth the extra £4 for peace of mind.
Yes, I do have to take time off work to receive a delivery, workman etc., yes, it is very annoying if they don't turn up and leave me standing.
I lost a 4 days annual leave last year due to a gas fitters incompetence - did they care - hell, NO.
Do I want parcels left on my doorstep when I am not in, of course not. Post Office left a large carton on my doorstep in full view of everyone walking by. I get home late afternoon and was shocked to see it - especially as parcel delivery is around noon generally.

My postmans fingers are def not sticky, Sometimes i wonder if he actually has any to be honest. The amount
of wrong mail we get is beyond a joke. We only get deliveries 4 days a week, I think they bundle it all up for a day
or so to make it worthwhile.
