Hi just wondered if anyone could help, my husband is in the forces and we moved over from Germany in November. Our house in the UK is 3 bed - only a yr old. We got our first bill last week which had been estimated both electric and gas was £50.39.
Thought I better check the readings and the gas reading was way out, when I rang Eon and gave them the reading my gas bill for the 17th Nov till 21st Dec is actually £121.00.
The only gas thing in the house is the combi boiler, we have the heating and water on all the time and control the heating with the dial. We were also on holiday 30th Nov till 15th Dec!!
Is it better to set the timings? Or could there be a problem with the boiler/meter?
Thanks

This could be the problem. Can you not set a timer so that your heating only comes on when you need it? Mine is on for 12 hours a day at the moment, it comes on at 8am and goes off at 8pm. But normally I just set it for an hour in the morning and a couple in the evening.
Is there a reason why you have it on all the time?0 -
My best friend told me this is the best way! Not having lived here for a few years we just took her word for it! Guess its just on all the time as Im on maternity leave and like the house toasty for the baby. Thanks for your reply0

If you are away then set it to come on at a low temperature say 5 c, to protect your home form freezing.
its madness running your heating all the time especially if you are not at home.
Does the system not have any kind of timer or a programmable thermostat.
If neither then you may have TRVs which should be turned down to the frost * setting. That gum you like is coming back in style.0 -
Hi babywillow
I do understand the difficulties of moving into a new home, especially with a very young baby.
At the moment, I'm sure saving energy is not at the top of your current list of priorities. However, it may be possible to save money by taking a few steps to reduce your overall energy usage. We will be pleased to help with this.
Have a chat to our Energy Efficiency team. Tell them about your property and the appliances you have. They will be happy to advise of any ways you may be able to cut back.
Ask for a copy of a booklet called '100 ways to save money by saving energy.' It's free and contains lots of useful energy saving ideas.
Check out our website, too; particularly the Interactive House and Energy Fit campaign. More good tips here.
Hope this helps point you in the right direction babywillow. Give me a shout if you need any more details as will be happy to help.
