Hi All

Hopefully someone will be able to help me.

We parked on a private car park today for a large shopping complex, as it was so busy we parked on double yellow lines (like alot of people) and got a Private Parking Charge Notice from UKPC.

After reading up on this would i still be ok to ignore all correspondence from them?

Many thanks in advance

Ignore it as long as the DYL were on a private road they have no meaning. If they are placed to avoid obstruction then you should abide by them. However most are painted to secure a contravention of their own little making!
  • thankyou, just needed peace of mind.

Just seen another thread in here about merry hill which is the shopping centre in question, they removed about 2000 car parking spaces earlier this year and it was mayhem down there today and alot of people got these but i shall be ignoring mine, thankyou!
  • should i send them a letter when i start getting them from ukpc like it says on the help guide or simply ignore everything that comes through and reply to nothing?

If you contact them they think you have accepted their "contract" and will expect payment of their outrageous invoice.

    No contact is best.

Do not contact the PPC nor their pet debt collector. Ignore all of the letter chain.

But as I said to another person in your shoes the other day, pleeease take some time to write a complaint to the Store Managers or Head Offices of the many retailers on that site saying you will take your business elsewhere in future. Do not say who was driving, just say 'our vehicle was parked' and then strongly complain about the stupidity of pretending they can 'fine' their customers.

How on earth do they think that encourages repeat business? Do they realise the threatening letters that these companies send out to their paying customers, it's not just a fake ticket, it's a whole letter-chain of lies to intimidate and frighten people into being hoodwinked into paying money that could otherwise have been spent on happy repeat visits and purchases. Are they mad to allow this?

And if you are so minded, copy in your local paper or write a special letter to warn others NOT to pay any attention to this tat. There must be LOADS of people getting these bogus PCNS over the sales period and if you can stop just one victim from being so 'mugged' then it's got to be worth it.

You don't even have to use your real name & address on your letters of course, if you prefer anonymity.

We need to get it into the thick heads of Store managers that using PPCs = losing business.
PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).
