In November I switched from Scottish Powers Fixed Price Energy Online 2011 package to another provider saving a progected £90 a year.
Yesterday afternoon I was called out of the blue by a Scottish Power rep who offered me their new fixed until December 2012 price package.
He informed me of the rates for gas and electricity under the new package and assured me not only were these rates cheaper than the provider I have just transfered to, they were also cheaper than the rates under my old 2011 Scottish Power online fixed price package.
I informed him of my average yearly electricity consumption and he from these figures worked out I would save in excess of £50 a year compared to my new providers rates.
Thinking this was too good to be true and being aware these calls are taped I again asked him to confirm that the prices he quoted were infact cheaper than my previous Scottish Power rates and those under my new provider. He again assured me they were.
Thinking this was too good an offer to miss I agread to return to Scottish Power.
He passed me over to his manager who in turn assured me that I would be better off on this new package and gave me my new agreement number.
Just to make sure today I dug out an old bill and was amazed to see that the prices per unit I was paying under the old Scottish power 2011 package was infact cheaper than the new package I had signed up to.
I rang Scottish Power today canceled the agreement and registered a complaint.I gave them details of the pakage I have with my new provider and it works out that had I switched back to them(Scottish Power) I would of infact been £245 per year worse off. This is before adding a £30 per fuel cancelation fee to leave my present provider.
Please beware should you be contacted in similar circumstances.
