Nb I repeat that "they" cannot force anyone to sell their home whilst the spouse is still living there. Even though it may not be yours as such, it is still the marital home.0

..and very reassuring for all of us that its only 5% of people who can be expected to have to go into a residential home.
The way the State talks it almost comes over as "The majority of you will have to go into one....". Mind you - makes a good excuse for the State to start talking about whether they should make an extra tax on us to cover care "in case" (ie that proposed Death Tax - last I heard they were talking about taking £20,000 per person from a persons estate just "in case"...). If it were clearer to us all that we only have a 1 in 20 chance of ending up in a care home we'd all fight a lot harder to avoid the State grabbing a further tax from us.0 -

There does seem to be a very widespread belief among very many people that this is the fate for the majority of us, not a minority. Over the last few years on Martin's site variations on this theme have come up again, and again, and again. Often to the effect that one's assets can and should be 'protected' against incursions by the SS, meaning Social Services, which is almost cast in the role of the Gestapo. People go to extraordinary lengths to think about this, discuss it, worry about it.
For me, I'm too busy living my life to give these possibilities much thought. Yes, people should be able to do what they want with their own money, but they shouldn't give it to others, or commit it to others, until their own needs and requirements have been met from their own resources.Ær ic wisdom funde, ær wearð ic eald.
