advice on painting kitchen walls

complete newbie need some advise.
I washed the wall with diluted caustic soda (125g in 5L water) water, guess I scrubbed the splashback too hard that some of the whitewash dissolved:eek:.

the white paint was done by previous owner maybe to test out the wash. My questions are:
1/ cracks & peeling -am I to use fine ready mixed filler and fine sand paper to repair them?
2/ silly one but is it ok to paint over the existing whitewashed wall?
3/ Dulux kitchen paint doesn't come in blue, will bathroom one ok with grease?

If it washed off. it was never going to stay on under your new paintwork.
1. Yes
2. As you know the surface is not good, use an alkali resisting primer to start with
3. Not familair with Dulux kitchen paint, but a quick google indicates you ought to be able to get it in any colour you want, at least from a Dulux trade stockist. But I would use an eggshell paint.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0 -

I am going to stick to a light blue kitchen colour & no colour wash(dunno how & less work for newbie), will a primer/basecoat (eg.Dulux Multi-Surface Primer and Undercoat) do?
