Bought an item on eBay....

I bought a Jack Wills duvet on eBay, there are marks and a small hole in it, although was described as "Superb condition" - I have emailed her but she has just said send it back and she'll give me a full refund.

I love the cover, and it was £55.. so, still not cheap (half the retail at £110), I don't want to send the bargain back, just, a discount?

Do i have any rights to this???

Regards,
Molkit xxx

How does the seller know you aren't just saying there's a problem to get a discount? If I were the seller I'd want it back too.

You have the right to send it back and get a refund. Of course you do not have a right to a discount!
    Gone ... or have I?

If its not noticeable, can you not just keep the cover?

Unfortunately Ebay attracts dodgy buyers who invent problems to try and get a partial refund. So even genuine cases like yours make sellers wonder if you're trying it on. This is why the general advice to sellers is "No partial refund, full refund on return or nothing".

You can try asking for a discount and offer to email photos of the damage, but it's up to the seller and the only right you have is to send it back for a full refund.

    HTH.
  • i agree with niallb - i sell a bit on ebay and ive had some guy scamming me saying that the item was faulty when i knew it wasnt (id only worn them once and wrapped them myself!)

I said id refund on return he then gt sulky - checked out his feedback and he was doing it all the time and praising seller for discounting his stuff...

So i would ask the same in the situation - few spolit it for all as usual xx

I'd take a picture of the hole and the marks, and politely email back asking her for a discount, but be prepared for her still to say no. As long as you are polite, no harm in asking.

    Of course you don't.
It either fits your needs or it doesn't.

Sutiable = keep it and be quiet
Not suitable = Send back for a refund
  • I once sold a guy a motherboard on eBay and accidentally forgot to put the drivers CD in it, he contacted me and I found the CD sitting at home! :/
I gave a partial refund of £3 as a good will gesture.
You can ask, but remember the seller has no reason to think that you aren't just making it up, but they might be willing to offer a bit of money back :)
