Re: Wrong Sort Code & Payslips!

Hi there everyone, I hope this is the correct board. My new job that I just started has finally come to pay day. I checked my account, and it's not there! Nooooo! Anyways, I checked my bank details which I gave them, and I gave them the wrong sort code, by ONE digit! What happens now?

Do I lose my paycheck? Or will it simply be delayed? I hope I don't lose it, can someone PLEASE reassure me!!!!

Many thanks,

Matt.

If you got one of the first two digits wrong you will probably not have given a valid bank code and it will presumably reject and your employer will get some notification. If you got one of the last four wrong it will have gone to the right bank but not the right branch so it won't marry up with your details automatically on their system. Depending on the bank it will either be sitting in a suspense account or the bank will manually figure out the problem - the former is probably more likely.

You need to go to your HR department and firstly give them the right details and then ask them to get on to their bank. You also need to get onto your bank and explain what has happened - preferably giving your employers bank details, the date and amount so they can try to find the payment in amongst their suspense account.

  • Thanks for that. I'll be on it now!

It was just the last digit that was wrong - I put an 8, instead of a 9!

    Doh!
