Travel insurance for pre existing conditions

I wonder if anyone can help please. We are going to the USA for sons wedding in May for 2 weeks.
My husband had a heart attack Sep 2010 and we now cannot find insurance to cover existing medical conditions without it costing more than the tickets we are going to buy.
Does anyone have suggestions what to do next?
I have entered online quotations and spoken to several companies and he has been refused insurance based on his medial history.
Correction have just been quoted £473 for just his insurance.....
Many thanks

Did you buy any cover when you bought the tickets0

I haven't bought the tickets yet but looking at BA's insurance it says that no pre existiong conditions are covered.0

£473 doesn't sound too bad in the light of American hospital costs and to be covered for pre-existing conditions.
Hospital costs in America can be astronomical.
By all means look at SAGA, age concern and talk to brokers, but at the end of the day you are probably going to have to accept that for someone with a serious pre-existing condition to be fully covered in the USA is going to be expensive.
Is there any reason you haven't tried a traditional broker rather than doing it yourself? (just a bit curious as to why people don't seem to like appraoching professionals).0 -
There are insurers that will cover pre-existing conditions but you will have to be underwritten by discussing the medical history with the screening service. Insurance for the US is more expensive than for Europe because their healthcare costs are much higher.
Suggest you try www.direct-travel.co.uk as they offered terms for my family of 3 all of whom have pre-existing - no heart conditions though.
Ensure that you have details of both yours and your husbands full medical history available when you speak to the screening service as if you exclude anything it will not be covered.
You will have to accept though that if you want cover the charges will be high because of the heart attack which was only 4 months ago.0 -
Hi Lisyloo
I have only just started looking for insurance. As I have had no previous experience with pre existing conditions and travel abroad, I did not realise it would be such a problem.
Thankyou for your suggestion and I will contact a broker :-)0 -
My OH has several fairly serious life long conditions . The company we used was insureandgo (sorry , i just cant figure out how to post links ) . They were really reasonable - under £100 for the whole family (5 people) . Give them a go , you can get a quote on their website. The loopy one has gone :j0

OP it isn't a problem. You will find the premium is quite high with every insurance company that agrees to cover a trip to the States for someone with a a pre-existing problem like your husband's. Be wise, buy from a reputable insurance company and make sure you disclose all medical information for both of you.
Once you secure insurance tell the company of any change in health status and medication that occurs right up to your date of departure..................
....I'm smiling because I have no idea what's going on ...:)0 -
OP, try ColumbusDirect for insurance with pre-existing conditions.
I went to Las Vegas last year and for a couple both with pre-existing conditions it was £86 for a world wide annual policy.
Going on my hols on my own this year and going to stick with them.0
