Is there much of a difference between godaddy and 123-reg? Do I just pick one of them and thats that??
Do they put the prices up much each year?
Anything I should be aware of??

I've used www.1and1.co.uk for the last 10 years now. Pretty damn cheap for registration and an easy to use Admin panel should you not host your site with them (forwarding your domain to a set IP address held elsewhere).
Worth also checking out.

Thanks for that.
The other thing is, how do you get an email address without yahoo or whatever on the end??
Very steep learning curve here -lol0 -
Whichever domain provider you use (godaddy, 123reg, etc) will offer you a webmail program so you can look at your email on their servers. When you signed up, they'd tell you how to do it.
Also, they should also offer you a way to download your email via thunderbird or outlook, etc, to your PC.
A third option would be to use Google Apps which would let you redirect email to your domain name to Google's servers, and you'd be able to manage mail to your domain from the GMail interface... (if all that makes sense). Google would store and manage your email for you. I use it and it's great.

The advantage of this way is that if you ever need to change your domain name provider, you won't lose all your email, but you don't have to have it stored on your PC (and therefore it will be safe if your PC ever dies). You're spelling is effecting me so much. Im trying not to be phased by it but your all making me loose my mind on mass!! My head is loosing it's hair. I'm going to take myself off the electoral role like I should of done ages ago and move to the Caribean. I already brought my plane ticket, all be it a refundable 1.0 -
Never use 1&1! I used them for about 2 years, and I hated every minute of it. They are ridiculously overpriced, and it's extremely difficult to do anything with your domain name. You can't even cancel a product through your control panel, you have to use a separate and complicated system that they don't even tell you about.
I've used GoDaddy for a while now, and I'm very satisfied. You can call them 24/7 and you're straight through to someone who knows what they're talking about. Everything is straightforward, with fairly competitive prices.0 -
I use Namecheap preferably for fresh registration domains but Godaddy is great for its cheap domain auctions, but whatever floats your boat lol
You never want to simply pick one out of a hat and leave it at that, Godaddy does have some issues with the constant upselling but they have got almost permanent coupon offers too, the only issue you will have from England is when your bank charges you for overseas transactions which happens with all overseas companies, just use a 0% credit card to get around it. Godaddy and Namecheap are definitely amongst the top two in the world, I have heard horror stories about 1and1 and as such would never touch them.
This is the forum I use predominantly for my domain names discussions and I am fairly easy to find and here is the link for the godaddy coupon page
If you have any questions they are the people to ask, particularly those called Erdinc and Evirtual
(Godaddy are currently doing a coupon offer for 31% off your entire order before the 2nd January, the code is gda1241pl)"Don't blink. Blink and you're dead. They are fast. Faster than you can believe. Don't turn your back. Don't look away. And don't blink. Good Luck" - The Doctor.0
