Taking a mortgage repayment break?

Options
My friend is divorced and lives alone. She has recently been flattened by flu as she has COPD too, and had to take nearly 3 weeks off work.

She's worried sick about her next mortgage payment as she doesn't get paid for absence from work. I remember seeing somewhere that most mortgage providers will allow a mortgage repayment holiday from time to time.

She has a tracker mortgage with Barclays and has never missed a payment in the 12 years she's had the mortgage.

Is it worth her ringing the bank to ask, or are repayment holidays a thing of the past?

She should take advice from CAB about not being paid even SSP if she is employed.

Can't hurt to ring and have a chat with them.

It's always good advice to talk to lenders when you're in difficulty.

Has she ever overpaid on the mortgage? That usually allows for a break. Not sure how flexible they'll be otherwise, but worth a call.

No, she hasn't overpaid. She can't afford to. She doesn't want to miss the next payment but will have huge difficulty finding it.
