Failed credit check for the first time

Hi guys
I applied for a mobile phone contract yesterday & was declined as I failed the credit check. I was told to contact Experian by the mobile phone company which I did. The strange thing is Experian said that they could see no reason why I should fail a credit check after they reviewed my file (had to sign up to the free trial first).
I also do print screens when applying for anything online & checked too if I’d made a typo when entering my details but all was ok.
For info I've currently got a mortgage, a few credit cards which are up to date (backed up by Experian report) & another mobile phone contract which I’ve had for years.
What I want to know firstly is will the failed credit check have an effect on my record or does it just show as a credit check & secondly is there any way I can get Vodafone to check / reverse the decision as apart from a mistake on their behalf I can't see any reason why the credit check failed.
Thanks in advance for any advice.

No it'll just show as a check.& secondly is there any way I can get Vodafone to check / reverse the decision as apart from a mistake on their behalf I can't see any reason why the credit check failed.
you can probably go down that route if you like, success may vary.
What I'd be thinking -might be worth a check of experian as well as equifax -did the sales guy actually know what he was talking about and get the right one?
Were all your details input correctly -I've had issues before when a number was missed in the second line of my address -really screwed things up as experian then thought I had moved house, also that I was not on the electoral role there and I'd lived there for <6 months.
Thirdly something could have gone awry on their internal systems.
I went for a halifax creidt card recently, perfect credit record and was declined -appealed and got another flat refusal... against conventional advice I simply reapplied 4 weeks later but via a different channel (did it online rather than in branch) and it all went through no problems.0 -
Strange as phone contracts are usually less hard to get than other credit.
I think you have the right to complain and get them to look again especially if Experian is the reason theyve used and Experian say your files clean.
My brother got declined recently as his address did not match that on the credit file however the manager managed to get him passed after a call to the powers that be.0 -
Thanks for the prompt reply
I also paid £2 for the statutory Equifax report and nothing on there either. The email did state that they used Experian though.
Definitely entered details correctly as I just had another look. Looks like Someone may have made an error at Vodafone's end.
I was told to send a letter to their head office and they may overturn the decision so may go that route but like you said is it worth it, after all if it’s not going to show as a failed credit check then I suppose it may be better to give it another go later.
Thanks again for the advice.0 -
Hi fizz07
It's a shame to see your application wasn't accepted.
Our usually policy is to wait three months before attempting agian. However as you have checked your credit files and been told that there are no reasons for you to be declined, I'd like to look into this for you.
If you send me an email from here with a link to the thread, I'll speak to our Credit Assessments team on your behalf. Make sure when you send the email that you include the code WRT135 in the subject line so that it comes straight to my team.
I hope to speak to you soon and that you have an awesome New Year!
Take care

You might want to check your file on Call Credit too, as I've heard they're the third in the unholy trinity that companies mainly useMortgage-Free WannabeMortgage at start [20/6/12]: £151,800/MFD Jun 2035 (age 65)Mortgage now [5/11/14]: £139,212.14/MFD Oct 2029 (age 59)Personal Library 2014:starmod: Read in 2014: 57/60 :starmod: In Progress: 2 :starmod: Books In: 94 :starmod: Books Out: 12 :starmod: TBR: 847 :starmod:0
