when you say they dont want to pay out have they told your not covered and pointed this out to you in they`re policy wording?

What company is it? as they all usually put the policy wording online someone could take a look.

You should contact your car insurer as well.

The Home Insurance will normally exclude anything connected with the car itself, you may find the car insurers will pay to recode the keys but sometimes it affects your no claims bonus and is recorded as a claim.

Until you get the key issue resolved it would be sensible to use additional security such as a wheel clamp and / or a steering lock etc

This is unlikely to be covered by you home insurer, but should be by the car insurer. As dacouch points out, this will be a claim and so harm NCD etc. Find out how much a few near-by dealers will charge and see if it is worth claiming or not.

Getting a wheel clamp asap is a good idea - they took the keys for a reason and may well be back for the car!!
  • Don't think most home insurance would pay out for a car key, after all they insure your home not the car.
