Morning All
Hope everyone had a lovely Christmas? Need advice if you don't mind.
We need a hotel and parking deal for Gatwick South Terminal from the 11th Feb - 27th Feb 2011.
The best deal we have seen is with APH. Staying at Premier Inn Manor Royal (no1 on Tripadvisor) and 15 nights parking = £64
Just want to make sure -
Has anybody stopped there?
Is it a good location for South Terminal and APH parking?
Does anybody know of better deals?
Thanks for any help and have a great New Year!

That's a fairly new Premier Inn. It opened earlier this year. Located on Manor Royal industrial estate. Not much around there except factories, offices etc. A smallish retail park with Comet, Next, Currys, PC World, Halfords, Argos, Paul Simmons and Hobbycraft is just around the corner.
The airport as the crow flys is just under a mile away to the perimeter fence. However by car/taxi, to get to South Terminal the drive is longer and will take about 15 minutes.
I think they have a hotel bus service (pay to board). There is also a local bus service that runs through the industrial estate to the airport. The bus stops are not outside the hotel but is walkable. Check Metrobus.co.uk for details. Route 7 and 10 (also possibly 100 and 20). Cost £1.70 pp. That said with luggage I'd grab a taxi (should be no more than £6.00-£7.50). A tip for that would be to ask to be dropped at Concorde House. That's an administartion office next to the South Terminal and were many of the crews check-in. The route is shorter by taxi and takes a short cut/back route.
All in all I think you have a good deal on offer and I'd book.0 -
Expedia do some good deals under 'secret saver' type offers, we got a good deal at the Holiday Inn as a last minute deal when the weather turned foul just before our departure on the 20th Dec - booked there rather than drive overnight in dodgy conditions, saved on the listed prices, hotel was clean, quiet and convenient, so I'd recommend checking there, too.Reason for edit? Can spell, can't type!0

Thanks guys. Do expedia do hotel and parking deals? Couldn't see anything on their site?0

How does this work? APH are quite a way from the Airport, 15 min drive if quiet but transfers are included to the Airport, so would you go to the car park, then the airport, then the hotel, or hotel, car park, airport?0

Thats an intersting point. It's about 6 miles i think. Is it a busy road? We are based in the Midlands so don't know these things!
We would stay at the hotel on the first night, then drive our car to APH. From there they transfer you into the airport.
Then on the way back its a transfer from airport to APH0 -
If you look at the prices of hotels in Horley,( not the big chains) just up the road from Gatwick, some will give you free parking for your holiday and run you to the terminal. Even a taxi would be far cheaper than paid parking, and would be exactly as you wanted it timewise. I don't do it as I live a few miles away, but relations do it all the time.0

According to ViaMichelin it is 5 miles from the hotel to the car park, they say about 10 mins, probably optimistic, then APH recommend an hour from arrival at the car park to arrival at the airport, then obviously a couple of hours, or more, for check in. So it could be an early departure from the hotel. It seems a very good price though, so if it fits your plans go for it.0 -
Thanks everyone. Took all your advice on board and have booked the following.
Changed from Premier Inn Manor Royal to Premier Inn Gatwick Central. It cost £9 more but we can drop the car off on the day we arrive. As the airport is on the terminal we get transferred from car park to hotel.
As we have an early flight this means our little girl can have longer in bed and we all don't have to get up so early.
Just need to get the monorail from North to South Terminal.
So Premier Inn Gatwick Central plus 16 days parking for £73.45 - thanks again.0 -
Enjoy your hols

plus a bit of a walk from the hotel to the north terminal first! It's not too far but the hotel is not connected to the terminal. If walking you have the delights of crossing a rather busy road and even getting muddy shoes and suitcase wheels as I seem to recall a few grassy hills/bumps (or I expect the airport would like them refered to as landscaping).
Google Map it, use Streetview and checkout the walking route.
Particularly if wet I'd grab a taxi. Should be no more than £5 providing it's not called from the airport ranks (they are so expensive).0
