Airmiles - connections query

I want to book a flight from Manchester to LA with British Airways. If I pay for the MAN to London leg of the journey with Airmiles will I be able to have my bags transferred onto the flight from London to LA or would I have to take them off and put them on the forwarding flight myself.

I think so, because it will be the same person travelling with the same company, and the only difference is the method of payment.
However I think that you shouldn't bother with paying with miles MAN-London - it's a really short flight where what you'll pay in taxes (paying with miles you still need cash for the taxes portion) will be more than the extra cost in the total ticket (and certainly more than a train ticket). Save your miles for some other flight*
Try it on the site anyway, and check it.

    * although I might be in the same situation as you, as I have enough BA miles for a european flight but would have to either go to London for it, or put up with 2 separate flights, and the one time I did that it more than doubled the flight time as if I'd flown direct from MAN with easyjet, at roughly the same price (taxes vs. low-cost ticket).

Air miles fares include taxes - no cash to pay. (BA miles are not air miles so may be different)

Mine are Airmiles not BA miles.

Although I will be flying with the same company I would have made two separate bookings so the airline wont connect the two?

I've done this a few times. The only time I couldn't check the baggage straight through was once when I was going via Gatwick and arriving early one morning but not travelling on until the next day, so they wouldn't classify as a transfer as such. Had to leave large case at Gatwick leftluggage.

    ceewash,

whilst technically on 2 seperate reservatiosn and 2 seperate tickets, you may find the check in staff at manchester willing to 'check you through'.

just mention it to them when you check in, as initially they will only see on the 1 reservation your flight Man - Lon.
