lost menus on video sender

hello,
I use a video sender to send the signal from our virgin media box upstairs to our bedroom. We have a second remote upstairs and can change the channel and access our v+ recorded programs from up there too which is great....until recently!
Now we can change channels using the up and down buttons on the tv upstairs but no onscreen menus come up at all - for instance if we try to access the v+ recorded programs when we press the button nothing comes up on the tv screen upstairs but when we go downstairs and turn that tv on the right menu is showing.
Any ideas on why this may be and how to fix it???
The video sender is a Nikkai A31JL 5.8gHz.
