Can you have two types of travel insurance?

I have lots of preexisting medical conditions and am getting quotes of £145 for 6 days in the USA. The forum discussion recommends Global Travel Insurance for covering preexisting conditions, which has a much higher excess, incase I have to put in any medical claims.
My husband has no medical conditions and is going to get bog standard insurance. Is it worth adding me on to his policy, so that if anything happens that isn't medical related (eg bags get stolen/ lost etc) is still covered?
I'd effectively pay for two policies, one for me for medical cover and one for everything else and everything for my husband.
Is this allowed?

There is nothing to stop you. However in the event of a claim, you will need to tell the company you are claiming from that you have another policy in place. That then opens up problems of who is liable to pay out, or the may share liability.
Will the company you are intending getting your husband's insurance from not cover your PEMC's?
You should also be cheaper getting a couple's policy than 2 separate ones. Try https://www.direct-travel.co.uk to start. You will need to call them to declare your PEMC's and get a quote.0 -
How about your husband getting the same policy as you, therefore only the need for 1 policy. His should be a lot cheaper than yours, if he has no PEMC's.
