Travel Insurance with missed departure via your own transport?

Options
Hi! I am trying to find out if there is such thing as an annual couples insurance policy for Europe (no winter sports) that will include a missed departure from the airport if I am traveling via my own transport (my car) to the airport?

We had an issue earlier in the year that I thought we would be covered for under the missed departure clause. The motorway was shut, therefore meaning us and many others had to go cross-country and therefore making the airport a pretty tight arrival. As we were stuck in traffic, I called the insurance to see what we would need to get to aid the claim and was told (as seems to be the norm) that unless our car had broken down (would need an AA/RAC report), we had been in an accident, that being our own car or we had been delayed via public transport then we would not be covered.

As it happened we made the airport 10 minutes before the flight closed but only after really putting our foot down and throwing the car in the nearest/incredibly expensive car park as opposed to the prepaid parking we had booked (additional £83 for a week!).

I digress and apologise, but I am trying to find a policy that might cover me in my own car if, as above, the motorway was closed etc? Does this exist as so far I seem to be drawing a blank!

Thanks for any advice offered, I know I am in the right place!

I think not, but only a broker or research of the small print of policies will tell you.

    Missed Departure
"This pays your extra expenses if you miss your plane, boat, train or whatever and have to make other arrangements to get to your holiday destination which cost you extra. If you have a fully flexible ticket, you do not need this kind of cover because it will not cost extra to change your ticket and travel later. However, if you have a non-refundable ticket or you are travelling on a chartered flight and would have to pay more to buy a new ticket to get you to your holiday destination, this kind of cover can be worth having. Some policies also offer cover for missed departure of internal flights in the country (or continent) you are visiting, which is useful if your trip involves this sort of travel.
The circumstances in which you can claim are carefully defined. The policy should pay out if you missed your flight (or whatever) because public transport let you down as a result of bad weather, mechanical breakdown or industrial action (unless advance warning was given). It is less common to be covered because your own mode of transport breaks down or because you are involved in an accident. You definitely will not be covered because you did not leave enough time to get to the station, port or airport. "
