Sometimes when I fire up my lap-top running XP it goes through the normal procedures....select the user.....then opens the desktop screen, but no title bar, no desk-top icons.....and just stays there.....switch it "off" on the button, go through it all again and usually it boots up, but just sometimes it doesn't meaning again I have to re-start.
I've run Malware & Dr Web anti-virus and haven't found anything (recently)
Any suggestions whats not happening?

can you get to Start > run, type explorer.exe and enter when it happens ??......Gettin' There, Wherever There is......
I have a dodgy "i" key, so ignore spelling errors due to "i" issues, ...I blame Apple

get to a 'working' desktop where you can use the laptop.
Go to Start > Run.. and type 'msconfig'
Click the 'Startup' tab and look down the list of ticked boxes - untick any programs you really don't need to start with windows - i.e., most of them.
Reboot, and see if this makes any difference.IT Field Service Engineer, 20 years with screwdriver and hammer
