PLEASE HELP!! Self Employment and JSA
L_Blue
I have been claiming JSA but have been offered work with a company but only working 2 or 3 days a month taking home about 95 pounds a month. They want me to register as self employed. How will this effect my benefit. Is it worth me doing it? Will I be better off anf will they even allow me to stay on benefits?
Any advice will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

would help if you could you tell more about your circumstances i.e,
income based JSA?
living with someone?
have children?
get other benefits?0 -
For that amount of money in a month (and assuming you don't work more than 16 hours in any one week), I believe you can continue to register as unemployed as long as you meet the other criteria like seeking and being available for work. You would need to disclose to the Jobcentre the income (less expenses) when you received it. The amount of JSA you received would be reduced to take account of the income.I have been claiming JSA but have been offered work with a company but only working 2 or 3 days a month taking home about 95 pounds a month. However, first of all you need to work out whether HMRC would say you were self-employed. Just because a company wants you to go down this route doesn't mean that you are. What sort of work is it? Where will you do the work? Whose equipment will you be using?0 -
I am currently on contributions based, I live in a shared flat, one other, I have no children and the other benefits I get are council tax and housing.

Well this is the weird thing, the company want me to sign a contract, but when I checked with HMRC it said I was classed as employed. Basically I would just be responsible for paying own tax and national ins...0

In that case stay on JSA as
1) you will get your NI paid for you
2) you will get to keep some of the money you earn
I would not under ANY circumstances come off JSA and register as self-employed. The job centre just want you off their books - don't do them any favours!0 -
I will use their equipment, its massage work at various offices...0

Ops just re-read your post - so its your new employers who want you to go self-employed. I personally would not do it, you will have to register with the inland revenue and be responsible for submitting tax returns etc - not worth it if only earning a small amount each month.0

im confused...so you are saying work for them but dont register? and tell JC that I am doing the work for them and declare the cash?0

Yes, its the new employers..... I probably wouldn't be any better off would I? Its soooo confusing!!!0
