Newbie with a Headache!

Hi Guys I've been scanning all the posts but got a headache! I'm about to enter a DMP with CCCS (thanks MSE originally approached by a Company£££!) was originally going for IVA (thanks again to MSE) didn't realise the implications!
I've got to open another bank account as £5000 of the debt is OD. I've got 2 accounts with LloydsTSB at present , and to be honest I'm managing to muddle along so I don't believe I'm in as much trouble as some, therefore I believe I'd probably get a "normal" acc. Do I risk trying to get a current acc (credit ratings probably only a bit dodgy at present) and trigger a rejection or do I play safe and go for a basic acc?
Really could use a Debit card and cheque book, I pay my rent by cheque, but I could manage without one.
Martin's got Santander down as his Best Buy but I assume they credit check and there's a few complaints on here about them.
Any advice would be appreciated, off to take a couple of paracetamols!

Santander are best avoided. They may offer a good financial deal, but they do that as nobody who has had dealings with them would recommend them.
  • All accounts with credit facilities (i.e. chequebook, overdraft) are credit checked. Even the "basic accounts" offer some form of Visa card.

I can't remember all the details, someone else will pop in and fill in my gaps. HTH
  • co-op cashminder is good with a debit card and online banking, no cheque book tho

cash minder still uses the electron bin code though, natwest may give a check book on their current plus acc with no overdraft. Although they are been phased out anyway these days
