Claiming money back for a lost item purchased on a credit card

  • A long time (20+ years) ago, some credit cards provided a free issuance covering theft and/or ’accidental damage’, for items bought on their card, lasting maybe three months, . (No idea, if straight-forward loss would qualify for ‘accidental damage.)

I don’t know if any card still offers that service, but I rather doubt it.

It's the kind of feature that comes and goes in the credit card market.

Halifax and their Ultimate Reward Current Account (£7.50 a month cost) offer similar sounding protection on a debit card purchase.
Purchase protection covering the items you buy with your Ultimate Reward Visa debit card if they’re lost, stolen or accidentally damaged
All you can do is check the most recent T&Cs that have been issued, or ring the card issuer up and ask the question. It's not impossible that an older card may still retain protection like this that isn't available on newer cards.

But it is a long shot.

It's a pity you didn't pay for it using an Egg Money card...

    ...assuming it was over £75?
  • Thanks opinions4u. I have been trying to find the T&Cs online but seem unable to do so at the moment, and have been on hold to the bank with music playing in my ear for around 15 minutes now. Will keep trying though.
