M&S flowers left on the doorstep !

Came home this afternoon to find a large M&S box left on the doorstep. It turned out to be a delivery of flowers, flowers that had seen better days at that.
Now I understand its been difficult to deliver these days with the bad weather, my whinge is that they left them on the doorstep. Surely a delivery of flowers should be handed over to a person. We could have been on holiday for goodness sake ! What would be the point of lights on time switches, leaving the curtains just so just for some half wit to leave a large M&S cardboard box on the doorstep. Why not put a sign outside saying 'THEY'RE NOT IN' at the same time.
This is not the service I would expect from M&S and I certainly will not be using , or recommending, their flower delivery service.
VERY POOR SERVICE !!!

Phone them up, tell them where they were left and the state of them and get some new ones sent out to you, also ask if the sender can be refunded. Definately complain about them being on the doorstep, thats handy for the local robbers!0

Alternatively, be happy they thought to leave them as opposed to take them. Look at it the other way round - let's say it was your birthday, and your long lost son you haven't spoken to for 5 years in australia sends you flowers via M&S - but they refuse to leave them without handing them over in person. So you get home from work, and find a card saying they had tried to call, etc.... you call them up and get a choice to collect them from the depot or arrange another M-F 9-5 delivery, which due to your work, you decline. When you pick the flowers up from the depot a few days later with the belated birthday wish, the flowers are half dead and you are upset at driving all the way to the depot...and the long lost son has given up on trying to reach you for your lack of response!
Ok, I'm trying to overdramatise the scenario for the sake of a bit of fun, but still a bit of a 'darned if you do, darned if you don't' scenario of M&S trying to get perishable time-sensitive goods to people. And if you're on holiday, have a neighbour pop round to do curtains, clear post etc. It's what neighbours are for.0 -
M&S Flower delivery service is utterly crap. They are used to complaints, and a gripe to them will usually see a refund come your way.0

Totall agree with paddyrg.
I am getting fed up with people moaning when they have to go and collect something that couldnt be delivered, moaning that the delivery person didnt use their noddle and leave them with a neighbour, moaning when they leave them with a neighbour and so on.
Sorry longforgotten, you are probably a very reasonable person and annoyed at the state of the flowers and maybe I am a bit wet behind the ears and trust passer bys not to nick my flowers and kind neighbours who look out for me but please dont go ranting at M&S because they tried to get the flowers to you in a timely manner and the delivery person probably had faith in your neighbourhood.0 -

They are generally excellent, but one year, they left some I had ordered for my mum with her neighbour, who immediately went away for a couple of days, and we didn't know what had happened to the flowers as no card had been left to say where they were!
By the time the neighbour came home, and knocked with them, the flowers were dead, being boxed and unwatered, and I did ring M&S to moan about them not leaving a card or anything (I wasn't too pleased with the neighbour taking them in and then going away either lol).
M&S apologised for what they agreed was 'poor service' - and two days later, my mum got a magnificent bouquet and two plants from them, together with a 'sorry note' and a gift voucher.:T:T
They usually try to make amends.
LinYou can tell a lot about a woman by her hands..........for instance, if they are placed around your throat, she's probably slightly upset.0 -
Thanks for the replies.
Please understand I know it must have been terrible for M&S and many other companies getting deliveries to people on time.
I just think it is totally wrong to leave anything on someone's doorstep. Sorry but I think leaving packages with neighbours is just a cop out. I have picked up numerous packages from Royal Mail depot, or asked for courier to re-deliver, and I have no problem whatsoever with that. After all delivery person has tried their best to deliver, if I'm not here it's then up to me to sort out re-delivery or pick it up myself. I would much preferred a note through the door rather than the flowers being dumped for all to see.0 -

the flip side is its flowers
if they go back to the office and you cant pick them up for a few days.
then what?
delivery offices are not cool places and as such flowers wont last long.
personally i never left items but i can see why others did
you dont want items doorstepped or left with neighbour
many complained when i didnt do those very things0 -
Custardy, I see your side of things too.
As far as I'm concerned the deal is that the order has to be delivered to the particular address, to be handed to a person at that named address. It's just how I see it and I'm fully prepared to sort things out if i'm not there when the package arrived, whether its flowers or whatever.
I know not everyone sees it that way.0
