its a HP Pavilion dv2000 and I paid just under £900 for it. I got the 3G datacard as I travel a lot, and although I can steal next doors open wireless connection, (like now) it's not that strong, I regularly get booted off and it doesn't help me when Im away. £30 is a little excessive I know, but I juggled my budget to allow it.

    HOW MUCH??!! Comet eh?

yeah it's a hell of a lot for a jumped up portable dvd player. Having looked around I have a 28 day guaruntee so I shall take it back. I would be OK spending that much on one that did what I wanted it to do

Yeah, take it back. Tell em you were mis-advised, they should refund it. Then shop around online. I'm sure you could get one for around £600 of similar spec but with the right slots.
Why do today what you can put off until tomorrow.

Express slots are what you get on a £300 Dell laptop. Get rid if you can. Ask here next time. ;)

or just get a 3g express card..

This is the new standard for pcmcia cards, so manufacturers are just keeping up with trends in hardware when fitting them.
Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time?

I've looked using the link above, and my datacard looks like the express cards, so if I got one of them they wouldn't fit either. I am confused.

so what do I actually need? An express card slot and then buy an express card to connect to the internet? Or a datacard slot and use the one I have?

If you already have a standard PCMCIA type data card, then get a notebook with this type of slot.

so what I have is an express card slot, not a pc card slot, and the data card is a pc card. the express cards are all good, and quality for future applications, I just have to get one.

I might just do that, thanks for all the help folks
