HELP! Got wireless internet working but email doesnt work

Just set up my wireless internet using a Netgear DG834Gv3 router.
Everything seemed fine until I opened Outlook Express and tried to check my emails, which doesn't work.

Any ideas where to go from here? ISP is Tiscali.

• Have you changed ISPs or just gone wireless?

And when you say it isn't working what error message are you getting?
• is outlook set to use your existing connection, or to dial up?

can you ping the pop3 and smtp servers?

have you encrypted the wireless btw?
Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time?

I haven't changed ISP, just gone wireless.

The error message is:

The server responded with an error. Account: 'pop3.tiscali.co.uk', Server: 'pop3.tiscali.co.uk', Protocol: POP3, Server Response: '-ERR AVG POP3 Proxy Server: Cannot connect to the mail server!', Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Server Error: 0x800CCC90, Error Number: 0x800CCC90

Can't find anything in the Outlook Express settings about using existing connection or dialing up.
And Pinging....?

I have encripted the wireless (WPA).

A footnote....
Although my internet connection worked last night, when I booted this morning all i could get was 'page not found'. However there was a connection, as my AVG downloaded and updated. Also, my laptop was receiving a wireless connection, but could also only get 'page not found'.
Strangely, it's working again now.

Clearly though, something's not right.
• Looking at Tiscali's support site it looks like the server should be pop.tiscali.co.uk - try changing that in Outlook express.

http://www.tiscali.co.uk/help/email/oe_settings_start.html

Otherwise do you have a software firewall installed? If so try turn it off temporarily and see if Outlook works then.

Email / Outlook Express Settings
Email Address whatever your user name is@tiscali.co.uk
Password whatever your password is

Outgoing mail server smtp.tiscali.co.uk
Incoming mail serverpo p.tiscali.co.uk

in outlook express go to tools, accounts and then mail and add a new account and follow it from there
:confused:I have nothing better to do!!!!
• The error tells me that the AVG email scanner is causing the problem.

See AVG Free Edition FAQ at http://free.grisoft.com/doc/5/lng/us/tpl/v5/nid/3493#5463. 6.17 suggests a conflict with another email scanner. If you had a previous antivirus with email scanning then make sure you uninstall it properly before reinstalling AVG.

If you didn't have a previous antivirus then turn off email scanning in AVG and see if that fixes it.

Have tried changing tp 'POP'.
Have just tried setting up new email account on that basis, but get this error:

The server responded with an error. Account: 'pop.tiscali.co.uk', Server: 'pop.tiscali.co.uk', Protocol: POP3, Server Response: '-ERR AVG POP3 Proxy Server: Cannot connect to the mail server!', Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Server Error: 0x800CCC90, Error Number: 0x800CCC90

Have windows firewall enabled. Have tried switching it off, but no change.

Ok guys... Just gone into AVG and changed the setting from dialup to LAN and email is now working fine!!!
Thanks everyone, especially Chippy.

Soz to go on... but any idea what my other problem is being caused by?

I'm conncerned that when I switch off and try to reboot later I will have the same problem.
