Charged for calls to 0900 numbers

Guys, Apologies if this has been posted before but my mum (76) has just showed me her phone bill which is high and includes several apparent calls to 0900 numbers (0901030808334,09010308389 and 09010308379). The calls appear throughout the quarter Sept - Dec 2010 and each one appears to have been dialled in seconds of each other. My mum is adament that she did not call these numbers. Ive contaced her Provider (The Post Office) this evening and they have initiated a billing investigation but the advisor seems to think they may relate to a reverse call scam whereby the recipient of the call is charged for receiving a cold call. Does any one have any knowledge about these numbers or such a scam:(

Post office obviously talking rubbish , reverse billing needs to be actioned by your mum , not just by someone dialling up and her answeringEx forum ambassador

09010308379 is a voting number for the daily star
I'm therefore assuming the others are for the same paper as the same rangeEx forum ambassador

You cant reverse the cost of a call in mid flight, without the person recieving the calls ok.
These are fixed priced 24.7p a go competion numbers. Has she been entering competitions?

Thanks Browntoa, it did seem a strange response from the PO that someone could charge my mum for calling her but I'll wait and see what they respond with after investigation. Re the Daily Star voting scenario - she doesn't read the Star so I'm even further confused but can you advise how you are able to asssociate the number ie is there a way to check on line?
And by the way All the Best to all on the Forums xx0 -

No Ypaymore she hasn't been entering any competitions. Of that I am absolutely certain as she's never done one in her life! She puts the lottery on every Saturday (same numbers) and that's it0 -
A fried asking to make a 'quick call' is and often used ploy. Why everyone doesn't ask for free 09xx call blocking amazes me. She should do it now.0

As the A/C holder, she only needs to ask using THIS FORM (A/C number needed).
Had it for years. No charge.Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0 -
Does she have home help, carers or similar visiting? This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0

The easiest way is just to call Customer Services (150) with your Account Number and ask for Premium Rate Call Barring. The online form can be used too, but I'm aware of a few users who submitted it, forgot and it wasn't placed on their line.
After requesting it, you usually get a letter confirming it has been added to your line profile, and you can file it away, save in the knowledge that all 0900 calls are blocked, and if for some reason they are not - BT are fully liable to refund the cost of any such calls.0
