Thanks for all the replies
Have rang npower one more time to see if the prospect of me leaving would change their stance at all... It didn't - still the same old; "you need to be with us 12 months before we will remove the pre-pay meters"
Bye bye npower..
Rang Eon - they took the same approach - we would need to be on the pre-pay meters for at least 12 months before they'd swap them out.
Rang SSE - Slightly more helpful, they will be willing to remove the meters straight away, but at a cost of £52 per meter (although after some discussion, they agreed to a £20 credit to be applied to each of the new meters once fitted) so total cost = £64 to get them removed.
Previous suppliers at old address were Good Energy, they had originally told us when we moved that they could not supply us at the new address due to the pre-pay meters and that we would need to call the existing suppliers, get them to change to credit meters - and then we could move back to them.
I decided to give them a call today and explain the situation. After speaking to a very helpful guy, he said that although they still do not supply elec or gas to properties with pre-pay meters, they might be able to work something out as we were customers for over 3 years who always paid on time etc etc.. And that given we want to move back to credit meters straight away, he said he would go and speak to the powers that be and call me back - hopefully with some good news.
So fingers crossed they're able to swap the meters out, and do it without charging for it.
Otherwise SSE are looking like the best alternative. (haven't tried BG yet, although i'm loathed to even speak to them given some of my past experiences with them)
Will update with progress..0 -
BG did mine and then I moved to EDF.
To the person who said the previous supplier might do it. I was with Ovo before moving here and they wanted to charge me £500 to change the meters.. £300 for one and £200 for the other. I declined their offer.0 -
