new to ebay / paypal

i've sold my first few items on ebay in the last couple of weeks (it is very exciting and quite addictive!!)
i signed up to receive payments via paypal and i'm just confused about the paypal fees. i've been charged fees by paypal for some payments - is this when someone pays by credit or debit card via paypal? they also said that i needed to upgrade to a premier account (which i did) - does this mean that i will always be charged a fee when someone pays by paypal (even if not via the debit / credit card route).
my balance is now over £50 so i wanted to withdraw some into my bank account. i have a joint acct with hubby but i'm a bit confused about the whole name thing - it says to enter it exactly as per your statement. obviously our statement has our full names (including middle names) on it. do i need to state these for both of us?
also - i just noticed that i am unverified on paypal - should i get myself verified? do i have to pay for this?
help / advice much appreciated!

Hi TraceB
as I understand it (though there are more experienced sellers than me)
1) you would have been asked to upgrade your account because someone paid through paypal using a credit card
2) with an upgraded account you will now pay to receive all paypal payments, whether via a credit card or not
3) if it will let you type in the full name of your account then I'd say go for it, if not then go for first and last names?
4) No need to become verified unless you are into some serious selling. Paypal sets limits for the amount of money you can handle with an unverified account, if you reach that limit then look into it then.

if i now get charged everytime someone pays me by paypal would it be more cost effective to downgrade my account again?

what do general small sellers usually do?0 -
I think most sellers do have Premier paypal accounts, but I also think it's a rip-off, especially for low value items which cost more to post than the sale price, so I'm sticking with my basic account. That means I can't tick the "I accept Paypal" box on listings, because eBay rules say that if you do so you must accept all Paypal payments, including card-funded payments.
Last time I checked, changing back to a non-fee-paying Paypal account was allowed only once, so if you "downgrade" then change back to a Premier account to accept a payment in future, you'd then be stuck with the fee-paying account.0 -
Yes the fees are a rip off but i find the hassle of refusing credit card payments to be greater, and I've only sold about 50 things through ebay.Debt Oct 2005: £32,692.94

If you want to accept paypal and tick the 'I accept paypal ' box then you really must have a premier account as you cannot refuse payments funded by a card.

Unfortunately that does mean that all paypal payments will incur a charge and you really need to decide whether you would prefer to remove paypal as an option and rely on cheques etc instead. Personally, cheques are a hassle that I can do without so whilst moaning about paypal fees I do continue to use paypal for my items as I get a higher sale price and no messing about waiting for cheques and going to the bank.
