Credit Card Fraud Overseas (Spain / Morrocco)

We had a call from our credit card company early December asking if we had used our credit card in Spain and Morrocco, spending a total of £1400 over a number of transactions and over 3 days. We had not. In fact we had not used the card since August because we were running it down. Clearly fraudulent use !

Following a lengthy telephone call with the credit card company, where they assured us we would be re-imbursed, we have subsequently received a letter from them, explaining that the amount will NOT be refunded to us, because the pin was used during the transactions, so, they say, the actual card MUST have been used, and therefore either WE carried out the transaction, or someone (!) has removed the card from the hiding place in our house in the UK, taken it to Spain and Morrocco, spent the money, and subesequently returned the card to it's hiding place !

Has anyone had similar experiences, and / or have any advice on how we best secure reimbursment of the OUR money ? We thought we were supposed to be protected against this kind of thing !

Not much help but had mine scammed in Spain a couple of years ago to the tune of 500 quid
The only place i had used it was at the car hire place at Barcelona airport ,3 days later got done for 5 lots of 100 quid a time on itunes

Lloyds were brilliant about it and refunded straight away

What/where was the 1400 quid scammed ?
