Tesco Instore Sales

I was in my local store on xmas eve & they had already removed the xmas stuff and were putting out the "sale items" now the thing is why are the sale items things I have never seen in the store before???, quilts, airbeds, sleeping bags etc. yet their other departments, electrical, crockery etc,no change in the prices.

Have they got warehouses off stuff they keep for just after christmas to unload as "sale items"??

They probably do have a warehouse full of stuff.
They may send sale items out to certain stores only so the sale may not be national wide.

the more cynical will say eg the air bed was sold in a few stores at a higher price, then they claim a sale around now. They may be right.

It is quite normal for supermarkets to feature products they do not normally sell. They are known as 'special purchase products'. They do not need to be sold in any stores prior to sale. The pre reduced price is given to the store by manufacturer/supplier as a SRP ( suggested retail price), then the likes of tesco do the own pricing.

All supermarkets will have been inundated with offers of products, prior to the sales from lots of different suppliers. It is quite normal. You may find some ordinanry product is reduced, but that wont be by much, as they would have battered the supplier down already on the price, so they dont have any more room for movement. The sale products more than likely have been ordered by Tesco since may/june time and held in storage for them.

Hope the above explains it for you.
  • Woolworths were always the same buying in special products to sell in the sales.

A lot of so-called 'sale' stock is bought-in rubbish. All the big stores do it.
