B&Q - Cata Oven

Okay, my mother bought a CATA oven from B&Q in July this year, this promptly broke down on CHRISTMAS DAY while she was knocking up the roast potatoes.
She sadly hasn't retained the proof of purchase. However the B&Q website advertises a 24 month warranty on the item. Upon speaking with B&Q customer services (managers all 'in meetings' after holding for 30 minutes to speak to him/her about this) we were advised that as the 48 day period had expired we were to contact the manufacturer.
Now from what I can make out, the manufacturer (CATA) are based in India and I cannot find any UK contact numbers for them.
Can somebody please give me some advice on this? Ideally we want to take the oven back to B&Q and replace it ..... do we have any recourse for this?
Any suggestions / information more than welcome!

Did she pay by card? If so then print of a bank statement and this should be adequate as proof of purchase.
Your contract is with B&Q so don't be fobbed off.The Googlewhacker referance is to Dave Gorman and not to my opinion of the search engine!
If I give you advice it is only a view and always always take professional advice before acting!!!

ohhhhhhhhh, well to be fair to B&Q with no proof they are right to point you in the direction of the manufacturer.
If you cannot get POP then I would contact B&Q again and request the contact information of the supplier. The Googlewhacker referance is to Dave Gorman and not to my opinion of the search engine!

OK my self and my fiance got this oven last Xmas and until two days ago had been great oven But as always a BUT. it went wrong in our case the oven stopped working IE tempature but grill worked fine ?.
anyway i took the oven out the unit to expose it only four screws simple task ( do remember to turn power of first thou ) OK i took top cover off could find nothing wrong ?from a visual look so then i checked out some forums to find someone suggested removing the rear panel strange ok now im removing the rear panel 4 screws to find a damaged wire not connected to the oven element so a simple repair and was working 100% again hope this helps. also i slacken the wires a bit as was rather taught.
im not a electrician but just used some common sense but has been fine with a simple repair :j.....0 -
mine just pretty much exploded at 9pm on Christmas Eve, it took out the main fuse for the house, so had to get the electricity company to come out to replace the main fuse (it blew a 60A fuse), not impressed.
Kitchen filled with smoke and there was a pretty big flash from inside the oven.
Going up to B&Q to see what can be sorted tomorrow. We bought the oven in May 2011....0 -

Good effort!
Not so good that the main fuse went before the one in your Consumer Unit though - time to get an electrician out to look at that!!British Ex-pat in British Columbia!0
