John Lewis - Price Match (or not)

Hello

I was wondering if anybody could help please.

Was trying to match a price through John Lewis for a treadmill. Treadmill comes with a 10 year parts and 3 year labour warranty. John Lewis wont price match because they say thay offer a 3 year parts and labour warranty on all large fitness equipment which other suppliers dont.

My question is whether this John Lewis 3 year warranty is worth anything (nver mind the 12% price hike they have) seeing as the treadmill comes with a better warranty anyway?

Thanks

What kind of competitor are you trying to match? Is it a bricks and mortar store or online?

    Do they charge for delivery?

A little more info would be useful.

OP, if you can get a better deal elsewhere, why not buy elsewhere?

Of course, when I say "better deal", that includes the whole package... product price, delivery, warranty, customer service, etc, etc.

Thank you Wealdroam, there ARE some nice guys around!

This is what a lot of people forget about when they look online and then go into a shop, get full 'training' on said product and either ask for a better price from them , showing a 'non bricks and mortar' business price, and compare it to what you see in the shop. You dont realise how depressing it is for a shop keeper to spend an hour with someone, for them to turn around and say, thanks for the info, i have seen it cheaper online, so i will buy it there, but will you fit it for me?. More and more manufacturers are now applying better warranties to shop bought product than if you buy it off the internet, some are doing 5 year warranties, parts and labour, if bought from the shop in my sector ( fires) or 12 months if bought online. You will start seeing this happening more and more soon as retailers are now kicking off.

It is nice to see someone thinking about it from the whole perspective.

    Thank you !

    nellissmith.

also take into account, how the warranty works. I bought a treadmill for £699 from Decathlon sports in Stockport early in the year. I picked it up myself. It is bloody huge and I had to take all the cardboard off it first to even get it in the car and I have a mondeo estate, which will 'eat' anything. It took 3 of us to lift it.

If you get one from t'internet you will have to get it in your house yourself, I broke 2 toes doing it ( dont ask how !) and still have the marks on my leg, where it scraped down, it weighed around 200 kg, as I rememeber.

Make sure anyone who you buy it from, will deliver it, straight to your room you want it in, and more importantly, if a problem arises, will they come out to it, or will you have to post it off for repair.

Before you jump in and purchase it, just check things out first. If you want it upstairs too, you will need other people there to help out.

    Hope above helps. good luck
